Wait for the vinegar solution to stop bubbling and then scrub the grout with a scrub brush or toothbrush. Realistically as long as you can force the grout into the joint use sanded grout. Use this method for both pre mixed and powdered grout. To grout a tile floor start in the farthest corner of the room scoop some grout on the floor with a trowel and use a grout float to spread the grout over a small joint.

Then wait 15 30 minutes for the grout to set before wiping off excess grout with water and a grout sponge. This durable non shrinking grout accommodates joints up to 1 8 3 mm and can be used for interior or exterior installations.

As a rule of thumb sanded grout should be used in joints larger than 1 8 in. Sanded grout is normally recommended when the grout seams are 1 8 inch wide or more as the sand provides extra bonding power that prevents cracking. If your surface is not level the grout will slope from one tile to another. Matching grout colors and caulk colors.

Use a hard edged rubber grout float and hold it at a 45 degree angle. Also grout size should be considered when there is a difference in the angle of a surface. Testing the grout on sample tile is a good idea. But on soft stone tiles like polished limestone or marble use only unsanded grout or you ll scratch the surface.

Use a grout float to press the grout into the space between tiles. You should also keep in mind that when tiling over a corner your grout grout joint will open up and when tiling into a recess the top of the grout joint will narrow in. Grouting may seem scary but it doesn t need to be. Some care is required if using sanded grouts on highly polished tiles as the sand can actually scratch the surfaces.
